Surface water is the part of  the hydrological cycle that exclude atmospheric and ground waters and include overland flows, rivers, canals, streams, lakes, ponds, wetlands, marshes, arroyos, etc. Surface-water hydrology focuses on studying the mecanism and dynamic of flow in surface-water systems (rivers, canals, streams, lakes, ponds, wetlands, marshes, arroyos, oceans, etc.), including the relation between rainfall and surface runoff.
